You laugh, but the shells alone are quite handy....not in a flare pistol particularly, but in a trip wire device, like this:

Be great for locating the neighbor's woodpile when the flashlight conks out after dark.


Or playing Hide 'N Seek down by the railroad tracks late at night.


Or politely asking the local Crack House to please turn down the Rap music after midnight.
